Heavy supper

I was a supper addicted person. Can't sleep without having supper.

But last weekend I had a really heavy supper that caused me unable to sleep throughout the night.

My old friend Yin Ming was here in KL,together with her/my friend as well,Lin Yee. We planned to eat seafood, and I just knew where to go for a cheap and nice seafood cuisine.

By knowing the stall is in around Jinjang,I actually don't really know where is the exact place.Jinjang is damn big man,and I guess I've been searching for the stall for around half an hour before I spot it accidentally, just when I'm going to give up.

Its a stall actually,at the roadside, with a few temporaray built zink roofs.

BEFORE

We ordered as if we are having a seafood feast, but sadly no fish and crabs,as Yin Ming said it would be too full for her.Duh...

The vege and dried chili seemed to be more than the meat...

First to come up,Kong Pow with Frog(hope I didn't interpret it wrongly) or Kong Pow Cao Tin Gai in Cantonese.Well, not very nice, actually,it's just OK for me.I don't quite like Tin Gai because it's always contain many bones, which challenges my patience while trying to eat 'em.Anyway,I like the nuts that comes with it.

Well,I prefer Lala in steamboat more...

Next, its Kam Heong with Lala.Ehez, this dish was specially ordered by Yin Ming. She had already asked me to bring her to eat Lala ,since the very first time she landed in KL.And now,I fulfilled her dreams. But still,I'm the one that finished most of them.So full...

Oilly food threatens your health

Crunch Crunch Crunch

Followed by two types of fried stuff.Fried "prawn balls" and friend sotong. Not much comment about that,it tasted normal and OK for me.Not a bad try.

Introducing my favourite food...

Then,it was the thing I ordered - Shrimps with Salted Egg,or called Ham Dan Ha Gou in Cantonese.(Gee,its really weird to translate these foodstuff's name, kinda awkward).Shrimps are my favourite, especially cooked with salted egg,and comes with a little spice. But what I had ate today was only average for me.Not the very best that I had ate before.Rated 6 over 10,OK laa, pass laa.

AFTER

Well, honestly, this supper was really heavy for me.As the two girls are not eating much,I'm the one that finished up most of the foods.

Overall, the food there are still OK,I would say above average. But the point is,it's kinda cheap, you know. For all the five stuffs we ate plus drinks and bla bla bla,its only 50 bucks over.

I mean if you guys are not so "sensitive" or have high expectations on the food's taste or quality. This place is actually not a bad place to hang out and dine in.

Cheap and not bad.

The find-Jay's-girlfriend's-aunty's-house game!

What is the best game to played after dinner?Well, ask me.

Surely,not the latest PS3

Nor Monopoly

It's the "find-Jay's-girlfriend's-aunty's-house game"!

After having a nice Thai style dinner. My coursemate,Jay suddenly thought of visiting his girlfriend's aunty's house to pick up some stuff. As Jay is still a newbie around KL,so the kind-hearted and good-person Kee Wai decided to give him a help.

By following the directions of Jay,we head straight to the housing area that his girlfriend's aunty stayed.

Jay didn't remember the road name or the house number,he just remember the outer view of the house. As he kept brainwashing me and the other two innocent friends of mine at the backseat,to look for a house that have many flowers and plants with a pond.

Kee Wai:I think we already been into this lorong laa.Jay:No we didn't!Drive inside and see.

But wherever we look, all the houses looked nearly the same!

Jay:I thought this is the last lorong we went by?Kee Wai:Si meh?I thought we haven't laa...

After finding a few rows of houses,Jay decided to call his girlfriend's aunty for help. After receiving some helpful information from his girlfriend's aunty. Finally,he told me the so called helpful information-House number 65 and Jalan Cemara 3/9.

Just like TV programme Deal Or No Deal,we are actually guessing which is the actual house, instead of 100 thousand dollars!

Still,we tried finding a few more rows of the houses in the same area.Nothing seemed to be near as described by Jay or his girlfriend's aunty.

We then tried in the other area.Still, nothing to be found and no progress at all.

Jay again, seek help from his girlfriend's uncle this time.Well,Jay himself seemed blurred as well.Having no idea and geographically blank,he asked me to get the phone.

But this uncle is a bit too...erm...cheong hei as well.He kept on repeating the same thing and the same direction times for times as if I am a newbie here as well, before reaching the main point! The main point is-WHERE THE HECK IS THE HOUSE!

Due to some circumstances that Jay's girlfriend's aunty might be a bit weak in direction giving or Jay himself is weak in direction giving. We were actually at the another end of the location we are seeking for!Having seperated just like one in east, and one in west.

Having finding a normal house in dark(well,it was at night),with just a few street lamps, and going on jucntions by junctions,it's even more exciting and adventurous than The Amazing Race.

After listening to the directions of Jay's girlfriend's uncle, instantly I knew where is the place we are looking for.In just 5 minutes,we're there. Then, what are the 30 minutes before that we were searching for?Jay,it seemed that you are having some problems...ahem...not sure its about hearing problem or communication problem laa...

And this is the damn road that we can't find, which makes us nearly LOST in our own area that we'll be living for the next 4 years!

This is the damn house we were searching for nearly an hour.

Finding this house with full of flowers and plants, its just like finding an Orang Asli kampung in the jungles!

I strongly recommend you guys to try this game. Its a good game to test your eyesight at night, and test your driving skills at night in challenging geograpichal location. And the best part, you can easily get into madness or mentally breakdown!Due to the house and lorongs are nearly all the same and the house number kept on repeating on different roads!

This is even better and more exciting than The Amazing Race!

But instead of 1 million dollar,I got a McFlurry from Jay as a compensation.Yummy.

Something from Indonesia....

Honestly,I expect something special or big from Shindy to bring from her hometown in Medan,Indonesia. And indeed she bring something special - cabai and kuih.

Made in Indonesia, more exotic and spicy?

As I met her this morning, she showed me a bag of cabai,or cilipadi,or direct translation from chinese will be "chili kid".And of course, the smell had already choked me,so,don't expect me to eat those.

Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia are still not the same afterall

Shindy brought us a special type of kuih from Medan,as she said it was her favourite.

I don't really know how to read or pronounce it,neither do I know what is the meaning.

First thought,is it yam kuih?

Yellow in color,I thought it was a type of nyonya kuih that I liked much. But,I was wrong,it's something different toally! It tasted weird for me,at first. But it was getting better and better for the next few bites.

Is Mojopahit refering to Majapahit that we studied in Sejarah during high school?

I looked through the ingredients, this thing was made from tapioca powder, nira, santan, egg, pandan and sugar.Kinda weird combination of ingredients for a kuih, especially with the tapioca powder. But still,it was nice.

But not everyone was fond of it.Some even complained and felt geli.Maybe this is what I called food-cultural barrier.

So,that box of thing was not finish eaten by the class in the end of the day.Shindy took it back,of course. While, she was in my car,I kesi kesi hint her,and guess what, that box of kuih is mine now. She gave it to me as I liked it so much.

Yummy yummy...thanks Shindy!

And,it had become my dinner and supper for the night.

The forgotten day - Selamat Hari Malaysia

September 16.Maybe it's just another ordinary day.

44 years ago,a parade in Singapore celebrating the forming of Malaysia.

But in this day,44 years ago,in 1963,Malaysia was born. With the merging of Malaya,Sabah,Sarawak and Singapore. The dreams of Tunku and millions of people on a Happy Malaysia came true.

Sadly, what happened next was unpredictable.Singapore pulled out 2 years soon after that and followed by the 513 incident that crushed the nation in 1969,history was rewritten.

13 States and 3 Federal Territories of Malaysia

How many people actually remember this day?The day when Malaysia was really formed, the real independance day for Sabah and Sarawak and Malaysia.

31 August is just the independance for the then Federation of Malaya(Peninsular Malaysia). Is it true to marginalise the rights of Sabah and Sarawak to celebrate the actual independance day of theirs? Why isn't the government placing Hari Malaysia as the nation's main celebration event?Do we still remember the true Malaysian spirit that hold us together?Do we still hold on with spirit of Constitution and Social Contract?

Wayang kulit show that will be replayed year by year.

After 50 years of independance and 44 years after the forming of Malaysia.Racial issues and discrimanations still rule the country harshly. Our mentality remains the same, despite the skyscrappers and buildings that was built more and more every year.As I always said-"First class facility, but third class mentality".How can we become an advance nation on 2020 like that?

Jalur Gemilang makes me proud,sometimes.

Malaysia is for Malaysian.Malaysia is our home, present and forever.Remember the spirit of September 16.

Selamat Hari Malaysia.

Blessing

Jacky Cheung was in KL to hold his concert last night.Eng Keat was here for it.But not me.

The God of Songs, this is what they called Jacky Cheung in Mandarin and Cantonese.Photo by Jeff Ooi.

I rushed to meet Eng Keat on the day after the concert,in Cititel Hotel Midvalley, after got off from my work.Eng Keat was my high school schoolmate and my best pal.

He will fly to Ireland to pursue in medicine studies in the next couple of weeks.Fearing that I might not meet him until next Jun or July,I told myself,I must meet him since I got the chance.

Big eyes and small eyes

The last time I saw him was around July, but till then he didn't change much, still the same old him.Just that,he was no more the Baby Keat I known years ago,but Brother Keat now.

We chatted alot, about the good old days.I got some info's from him as well, info's on those friends that I had lost in touch with.Well,I'm quite glad actually, after hearing that many of my friends and buddies are doing well.A few future doctors and professionals in the making.

Baby Keat and me*smiles*

We even chatted about politics and current affairs.Eng Keat had really evolve from Baby Keat to Brother Keat.We shared some common views on current political affairs and issues.I'm really pleased that he really make some efforts to care and know about politics and his rights.Good job!

Just wondering any of my buddies are in Africa or Latin America?

Well, meeting with him made me recalled back the good old days in high school with the whole bunch of buddies.Leow Khai,Jun Yi,Soon Khen,Kyloon,Jie Yang etc etc etc...But times wait for no one,as everyone are going in seperate ways(some had gone).Stretching from London to Taiwan and Australia,we're all shattered around the globe.

Was with JunYi,and the JPA holders,Sheng Yu aka Fish,Zi Yi aka Yam Lou and Ying Jing aka Toon in Midvalley's McD. But now JunYi is back to Taiwan, and the others going overseas soon.

Maybe some of us just meet once or twice in a year,or even several years. For example,I didn't even meet Kai Yan and Jing Ting ever since graduation from high school. That's why I really treasure the time when we got the chance to meet,I really have no idea when will be the next time we get to meet each other.

Perhaps,we're far away.Perhaps,we're not as close as before.Perhaps,we don't have the chance to meet.Perhaps, our friendship faded.

But still, the connection is there, the bond is still there.Once friends,we're friends forever,we're buddies forever. No matter where we are,no matter how we are,no matter what we are.

Perhaps,Jacky Cheung's song,Blessing or 祝福 in Mandarin is the best song that reflects my feelings now.Although the MV is a bit lame, but the song is nice.Since Jacky Cheung was here for his concert,I must also show some support mah...

Just like in Jacky Cheung's Blessing,we'll meet again some day,and I'll always bless and pray for you guys. All the best and hope you guys will achieve success in whatever you are doing.

Good luck and God bless.

Dinner with Siaw Wei at Italiannies

It was my off-day today, having myself overslept until noon, and missed both my breakfast and lunch, but I was not hungry at all.Weird huh...

Anyway,as soon as I came back from giving tuition in late afternoon, hunger finally striked my stomach. In a sudden,I had a strong eager to have Italian food today. And I just know where to go.After picking up my coursemate Siaw Wei,we head straight to The Curve, destiantion - Italiannies.

I just been to Italiannies for once. The environment is fantastic, with the nicely decorated dining area, you will feel that you are in Italy more than in Malaysia.Located in The Curve,KL(another outlet is in One Utama),Italiannies serves fine Italian food, ranging from pasta to pizza,it even has its own bar next door!

Another specialty of Italiannies besides of it's food,is it's food portion. The portion in Italiannies are famous for being HUGE.So that's why they always encourage their customer to share their food while dining.

Well, this isn't a big problem for me,as I eat alot as usual, and through sharing,I'll get to try more variety of food with my friends.Remember, good foods are always to be shared together.

Due to it's just me and Siaw Wei,we couldn't order too much,in order to prevent wastage as we might not finish up the foods. We just ordered two main course, and "sacrificed" the appetizer that I much awaited,Spinach and Artichoke Formaggio.

Anyway, thank God,we didn't order the appetizer. If not,I don't think we could finish up the main courses.Maybe I'll write about Spinach and Artichoke Formaggio after my next trip to Italiannies.

We were served complimentary with two types of Italian bread with olive oil and vinegar, while waiting for our meal to be served.I don't really know what is the name of the bread, but it just taste OK for me.

In the other hand,Siaw Wei seemed not very enjoy with the bread served,I could see from her eyes, she just felt weird to eat breads with vinegar and olive oil!

The first main course served was Spaghetti with Meatballs. The spaghetti tasted good with the bolognese sauce(or tomato sauce?) and some parmesan powder on it.

The meatballs were humongous,it's just like a mini ball that you can hold it fully in your palm. The taste was quite simple, not complicated, but nice.Overall, the combination of the spaghetti with the meatballs were not bad,I would rate it 7 out of 10.

Siaw Wei performing her "lao mian" skill, also known as "noodle(spaghetti) mixing" skill.

I have to say the portion was kinda HUGE,as the waiter told me this is a portion for three person. But what amused me was,why there was only TWO meatballs instead of THREE?

The second main course was the Roasted Chicken Italiannies. This was the second time I'm having this dish, but I'm still hooked with it!

It's actually a roasted half chicken that was steamed, served with potato wedges, olive oil, garlics, and lots of chilis. But not very spicy though.

I personally felt that it was very nice, and like it very much. The chicken meat was very soft, with the roasted taste at the skin part, and the taste of the ingredients around seemed had gone inside the meat.Nice one!I would rate it 8 out of 10!

I've always heard my other coursemate,Shindy talking about their Tiramisu as well. But by that time,I was too full and my stomach seemed can't take it anymore.

Well,OK,this is still a fair price for such nice foods.Siaw Wei and me were really satisfied afterall,it's a nice dinner.

Overall,it was a nice meal, although we missed the appetizer Artichoke Formaggio and Tiramisu, but there's always next time.I hope next time there will be more of us going to dine there, just like what Italiannies always said-"The best way to enjoy Italiannies-bring friends and a big appetite"

A warm welcome...

OK,sorry about the lousy intro, just wanted to have more "philosophy" feel around. But clearly,I'm still not reaching that kind of standard yet.

Hello my name is Kee Wai,or you can just call me Darren.Welcome to my new blog site.Well,I had blogged for around 2 years by using Friendster's blog service. But,still,I think Friendster is not a specially blog-based site,it had some weakness and caused some incovenient for me and my viewers.Thats why I decided to move into Blogspot,a truly blog-based site,I truly hope this new site for my blog will make convenient and provide a better blog-reading environment for my viewers.

Anyway, for those who just knew me,just to tell you that,I'll blog everything and anything. From foods,to travel, and from daily happenings to special occasions, and even politics, you can find it all in my blog.I like to write things, and share things with my friends, but now I wanted to share it with more people and make more friends,so thats why my blog are here for.Its to share and to know.

I'll be blogging quite frequent nowadays, unlike the older days, which I had to blog in the stuffy and smoke-filled cyber cafe which cost me around 2 bucks an hour. Now,I have a better environment and facility to blog,at my home using my own Streamyx.

So,please bookmark my blog or add it in your favourites. In the coming days, you'll found out how words speak.
